Artemis Marketing, a long-standing West Sussex digital agency specialising in SEO and growth support for SMEs, has transitioned to an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT) after 21 years in business.
Founded in 2004, Artemis has grown into one of the region’s most respected independent digital agencies, known for its transparent approach, strong client retention and commitment to helping local and owner-managed businesses thrive online. The move to employee ownership places the majority of the company’s shares into a trust on behalf of its employees.
Strengthening independence and long-term stability
The decision comes after a period of significant growth and several acquisition approaches from private equity firms and agency groups. Founder and Managing Director Mike Knivett said:
“We received offers to sell the business, but none aligned with our values or our commitment to clients. Becoming employee-owned protects what makes Artemis special – our independence, our culture and the long-term relationships we’ve built across the region.”
Artemis will continue to be led by its existing management team, with day-to-day operations remaining unchanged. The EOT structure ensures that any future value created by the agency is shared fairly with employees, recognising their contribution and strengthening long-term organisational stability.
A model built around people
Employee ownership is increasingly recognised across the UK as a powerful model for improving staff engagement, retention and business performance. SEO Director Sara Lenartowicz said:
“This move gives every member of the team a meaningful stake in the future of the agency. It reinforces our culture and strengthens the quality and consistency of service we provide.”
In 2025, Artemis was named one of
The Sunday Times Best Places to Work, reflecting its focus on wellbeing, professional development and creating a supportive workplace.
Supporting the region’s business community
As an employee-owned agency, Artemis remains committed to supporting the growth of SMEs and local organisations across Sussex and the South East. The new structure ensures the agency remains rooted in the community, with decisions guided by long-term thinking rather than external investor demands.
