It wasn't that long ago that borrowing from your bank, friends, or relatives were the only available options if you need to raise money to start your business. How times have changed!

While some high street banks are still an option for a robust proposition with match funding or the security of the equity in your home, many start-ups have found that traditional bank overdrafts and loan facilities are no longer a realistic hope.

Thankfully, a whole new world of 'alternative funding' is emerging. You may or may not have heard (apparently 95% of UK businesses survey haven't) of equity based crowd funding, reward based crowd funding, peer-to-peer lending, pension-led funding, invoice trading, debt-based securities business angels and private investing (as seen on TV's Dragon's Den).

The government also recognises that start-ups can play their part in the economy as potential tax payers and employers hence the introduction of the Start Up Loan Company. This fund allows you to apply for up to £25,000 per person - Find out more

Grants - some areas do have grants available to aid new businesses. They tend to be location and/or sector dependent but a fanstatic boost for anyone who qualifies.

The only problem now is knowing which of these is likely to be best for you! To help you decide, we have created a free funding report...

NWES has been helping pre-start, start up and existing businesses since 1982. We offer a range of business support covering Finance, Advice, Training and Premises in the East of England aimed at anyone who would like help and support in starting or growing a business. Many businesses need access to finance to start or expand their business, but often the mainstream options are closed to them. Community Development Finance Institutions (CDFI???s) exist to bridge this gap, they lend to businesses in some of the most deprived and underserved areas. CDFI???s have two purposes to provide the finance required to businesses when the banks cannot assist and encourage social and economic change. NWES Advance is one such institute and has been lending to businesses in the East of England since 2004 with the help of funding from the Phoenix Fund, EEDA, ESF, enterpriseGY and local council funding. Within that time NWES Advance has lent over ??1.5million for numerous business activities to both new and existing businesses.
