Every day we encounter hundreds of brands and logos from huge multinational corporations to smaller one off businesses. But what makes these brands and logo designs successful? Chances are they were created by a Graphic Designer.
A Graphic Designer is a professional that creates a visual artistic presentation that communicates a message. They combine words and images that help to explain what a company is all about. Graphic Designers take this logic and are able to apply it to advertising, packaging, brochures, website, magazines and newsletters.
This is important for your business as you only get one chance to create a first impression and of course you want that to be as good as it possibly can be. For example if you were attending a job interview you wouldnt wear jogging bottoms and a t-shirt as this would create a first impression that you couldnt be bothered or were perhaps lazy. This is exactly the same as a logo design, a sloppy design would imply that the business is also sloppy as you havent cared about how the logo looks so why would you run the business any different? First impressions count.
Choosing a Graphic Designer to create your logo is an excellent investment as they understand the dos and donts of good logo design that the average joe might fail to notice. It is easy to create a logo that looks nice but it takes skill to design a logo that can communicate how a businesses works.
A Graphic Designer also knows how to make the most out of space and content. There are many different ways to use layout to help communicate a message and make it easy to read and whilst also being user friendly. This is extremely important when it comes to website design.
A Graphic Designers opinion however is not the be all and end all. If you dont like a certain aspect of the design your designer should be able to work with you to create something that you are both happy with, without harming the message that you are trying to communicate.
Here are 5 tips to help you choose and work with a Graphic Designer:
Ask to see their portfolio, look at the projects they have worked on. Make sure that you like their style.
Outline what you want them to design and ask for a quote stating your budget
Discuss what you want to communicate, to what target market and what you want to achieve by doing this
Talk about what you like and dont like in design
Set a date for when you want the work to be completed. Dont forget that you will also need to be able to stick to the deadline as a Graphic Designer can only complete the work if you are on-hand to give feedback.
A well designed logo or advert should be attention grabbing and engage a response. Hey, it might even win a few awards!
